Bergman: From out of our past, Sept. 22

100 Years Ago Sept 22, 1922

The American Legion convention at Dayton, Ohio, during the early days of the present week, drew the attention of the newspaper readers. Messrs. John Weisittel and Louis Hoying went to the convention as delegates from the Minster post and they had a place in the councils of the splendid body. Cass. Laufersweiler, Ed Schunk, Ben Boecker and Clem Albers also attended.

The regular annual election of the officers of Andrew Kunkler council No 2158, Knights of Columbus, was held and resulted as follows: Grand Knight, C.B. Heckman; Deputy Grand Knight, Robert Schmieder; Chancellor, Dr. C.L. Dine and Recorder, H.B. Boecker.

The 1923 Buick Special Six-55 Sport touring car that the American Legion post at Minster is going to give away has been on exhibition here for a week at the C.J. Laufersweiler Buick sales room.

75 Years Ago Sept 19, 1947

Second Hospital Suit Court Trial Hld Probable – Probability tat a new trial will be held in the case of Clarence Wuebker, Minster farmer against Ferd Brockrrath of Minster and others as trustees of the St. Marys, Noble, German and Jackson townships, seeking to prevent construction of a $500,000 hospital, loomed this week. The bond issue for which was approved by a majority of elector of the four subdivisions, but not by a majority of each of the four.

Special Tax Levy Sought Here For Purposes – Board of Education would make needed repairs and improvements to buildings and grounds.

Precious Blood Priests to open new Chilean Mission- Two will start work in Santiago immediately – six other prepare to go next month. They are the Rev John Wilson, former Army chaplain, who will be superior and the Rev. John Kostik, rector of St. Charles seminary.

First Homecoming is dated at Maria Stein when the Blu-Jays meet the Troy reserves. This is the first homecoming game scheduled in the history of St. John high school.

Karl H. Wacker takes bride at Cincinnati. Of interest in this community was a wedding in Norwood, Cincinnati uniting Miss Ada Grogan of Norwood and Karl Wacker of Minster. Mr. Wacker, in addition to his agriculture work, is a director of and actively interested in the Minster Food Storage

Cooperative.

Ray Bergman, son of Mrs. Louise Bergman, has enrolled at the University of Cincinnati for a course in advanced accounting. Roland Bergman, his brother, is taking up a course in mechanical engineering at the YMCA college (Sinclair) in Dayton.

50 Years Ago Sept 21, 1972

Jon H, Piening, who is currently on a work study program in Europe, writes he was able to see the opening ceremonies at the Summer Olympics in Munich quite by accident. He was filming the ceremonies from a remote location when he was assumed to be a part of a news correspondents group and was moved to a ringside seat for the opening. He further writes that the people fell very deeply over the IsraeliPalestinian tragedy.

The Minster Wildcats have an unbeaten record for the season with a win over St. Henry in a Tri-County League game on Friday. They are 2-0 for the season with a 1-0 league record. This Friday they host the New Bremen Cardinals in another League game.

Mark Thieman took first place honors in the tournament with 158. Runner-up was Jack Boecker with 161 in a play-off with Randy Schafer, who placed third. Ron Olding and Dave Schlater shared fourth place honors.

Crescent Players Set November Dates For “Oklahoma” Production – “Oklahoma” the most popular musical show in theatrical history until the advent of “My Fair Lady”, will be presented by the Crescent Players in Minster in November.

After the Minster home football games enjoy Sausage and Sauerkraut at Dutch Mill Cafe
