Fort Loramie Legion Auxiliary hold meeting

The meeting of the Fort Loramie American Legion Auviliary Post 355 was called to order on August 8, 2022 by Cindy Plas, President, with 11 members present. Chaplain Jeanne Boerger opened the meeting with prayer. The colors were presented and The Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble were recited.

The minutes of the June meeting and the current financial report were presented and all members present agreed no changes were needed. Lynn Crowe, treasurer, gave the financial report which will be filed for audit.

She has also recently submitted the 990 form. One bill was presented and will be paid.

Deb Albers spoke on memberships and stated there are four new members. The renewal letters will soon be mailed.

Old Business:

—Have not heard if a VA Easter, Christmas or Birthday Party will be held.

—Dayton VA does not need donations

for the companies to get face to face with them.”

The next one is scheduled to occur in spring, with people encouraged to come at certain times in order to take advantage of these opportunities. Helentjaris at the very least believes that it helps the students immensely, and that they aim to make it better each time.

The businesses that join up each year are certainly appreciative for the opportunity, with many coming to Tri Star for an opportunity to get new talent. Businesses like Bruns Construction have made sure to come in multiple times each year. at the present time.

—Akron and Cincinnati does need supplies donated. Auxiliary member Tammy Stephens graciously volunteered to organize care packages for our local active members who consist of 10 men and 2 women. After the meeting all packages were organized and will be sent to these active duties.

—Jane Poeppelman spoke of the April Community Blood Drive success having 350 donors. The leftover food was given to the local Food Pantry. The next drive will be held on June 16, 2022 with 165 registered donors to date and are planning for 200 donors. A donation from DANONE Yogurt was accepted and cups will be given to donors. Also served will be ham sandwiches and snacks.

New Business:

—A request from Isaac Holthaus (Kelly & John Holthaus) was made for donations towards his Eagle Scout Project of a Flag Pole at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. A first motion was made by Patty Eilerman

“It’s great seeing the students and public come out and learn more about the local employers and all the opportunities in Mercer and Auglaize County,” stated Nick Koesters of the company. “It’s been very successful and we’re very excited.”

It not only provides them early access to new talent, but also provides them a chance to explain more as to what exactly they can offer to specific students. While their company does work in one field, it does require a large variety of backgrounds to keep the

—An idea to have a Flag Exchange was brought up with positive feedback. Suggested is to bring in your tattered flag and we give you a new flag. We would have to have a set number. A specific size would be needed also of possibly 4X6. We will have it on a special day such as 9/11 or Veterans Day, done at the Gazebo or somewhere near the Legion, weather permitting. We thought maybe buy a certain amount. If anyone would want to buy a flag, they can purchase and not have a flag to exchange. Suggested is Polyester as it is the best material for outdoors. Deb Albers and Lynn Crowe will check into quantity and pricing. First motion was made by Jeanne Boerger and Second by Marlene Hoying.

—Discussion was made about a group from Greenville that visited our Canteen recently and spoke of Wreaths Across America. and are placed at grave sites of Veterans. American Legion Post #355 does good for the companies and it’s good for the students,” said Helentjaris about the experience. She hopes that the second time around for some of these students will help them be more comfortable in the spring. “When they come back in the spring, it’ll be the second time and they’ll feel a little more comfortable with talking those companies cause they met them once before.”

It was suggested we do Red Ribbons possibly at Christmas time. We will discuss all possibilities in the near future.

—The Quarter Auction will be held again in November. It was brought up to possibly start an Auxiliary Scholarship which will be self funded by this Auction. Jeanne Boerger, chairman, will check into dates with organizers Shelly Holthaus and Jamie Borchers.

—Our first two Bar Bingos this year will be held on Friday Oct. 7 ,2022 and Friday Nov. 11, 2022.

—A request for donation was made for speakers/sound system for the Legion made and passed with first motion by Deb Albers and Second by Jeanne Boerger.

—Honor Flight donation was discussed and decision will be made at a later date.

With no further business, Chaplain Jeanne Boerger led us in prayer and the meeting was adjourned and colors retired.
