Cross country teams stay sharp as season winds down

From staff reports The area cross country teams completed in four different locations as they draw nearer to the postseason.

MINSTER

CENTERVILLE — The Minster runners were on the course at Centerville for a meet on Saturday night.

In the boys varsity “A” race, Minster finished 13th with 367 points.

The top five were Jack Grieshop (21st, 16:59); Ryan Halpin (32nd, 17:16); Jim Trzaska (70th, 17:55); Nick Prenger (76th, 18:02) and Noah Walter (169th, 19:16).

Carter Dirksen (19:47); D.J. Bensman (20:38); Jacob Keller (20:59); Eli Huwer (21:06); and Carter Dirksen (22:49) were the others in that race.

In the girls’ championship race, Minster took 11th place.

The top five finishers were Taylor Roth (27th, 19:06); Annie Hemmelgarn (56th, 19:54); Chaney Cedarleaf (64th, 20:02); Ava Stammen (75th, 20:12); and Morgan Ketner (99th, 20:35). Other results were Elle Grieshop (20:52); Cameo Cedarleaf (20:59); Riley Hagins (21:01); Rachel Niekamp (21:02); and Adriana Kremer (21:22). Running in an open division race were: Liz Trzaska (22:32), followed by Gabi Pelletier (22:54); Lexi Hanson (22:55); Mallory Pfeil (23:46) and Riley Billing (24:05). ————

NEW KNOXVILLE

BOTKINS — Botkins hosted its annual “Best in the West” Invitational with 11 teams and several other schools, including New Knoxville, as part of the field. The Botkins girls took first place with 50 points.

Their top five placers were Alaina Mann (2nd, 19:13); Brittany Arnold (3rd, 19:39); Bella Bucio (11th, 21:25); Grace Gutman (12th, 21:27) and Ava Egbert (22nd, 22:25). New Knoxville’s Ariyah Pfenning finished 10th overall (20:56) and Sannah Chede was 21st (22:05).

Botkins also won the boys’ team title with a score of 39. The Trojans’ top five placers were Keaton Schnippel (fifth, 16:58) and Parker Schnippel (17:03), Carson Brown (17:17), Collin Doseck (17:27) and Carter Pleiman (17:42) finishing seventh through 10th. Results for New Knoxville were Noah Holland (76th, 20:13); Kaleb Putman (80th, 20:50); Elijah Lammers (89th, 21:49); Liam Lammers (94th, 23:29); and Nathaniel Stephens (98th, 24:26). ————

ST. MARYS

KALIDA — The St. Marys runners were part of the competition at the Wildcat Invitational.

The girls finished in eighth place with 222 points. There were 18 teams in the field.

Lauren Schloemer was 19th (20:29), followed by Maria Jutte (22nd, 20:33), Peyton Gabel (40th, 21:34); Raeh Wenhes (65th, 22:45) and Karlie Lucas (76th, 23:22).

Other results were Kailey Smith (26:05); and Kennedey Regedanz (27:51).

For the Roughriders boys, they took 11th place with a team score of 295.

Tyler Birt crossed the line in fifth place at 16:34. He was followed by Dylan Hertenstein (53rd, 18:34); Griffin Luebke (72nd, 19:09); Marcus McClain (82nd, 19:30); and Ray Walter (83rd, 19:34).

Others in action were Kayne Kaiser (20:42); Luke Hertenstein (24:39); and Jaden Pence (26:09). ————

NEW BREMEN

LEWISTOWN — The Cardinals were in competition at the Jean Newmeyer Invitational hosted by Indian Lake.

Marion Local was also in the field.

The Flyers were first (35) and New Bremen second (55) in the boys’ team standings. Others present were Ben Logan, Indian Lake and Bethel.

Zach Wiedeman had the top time for New Bremen, taking third (17:10). Next was Cole Powers (9th, 18:11), then Patrick Bernhold (12th, 18:20); Gavin Spragg (15th, 18:26) and Dominic Shroyer (16th, 18:27).

Other results: Sam Bernhold (19:16); Keegan Wells (19:27); Jonathan Zimpfer (19:52); Tyler Schwartz (20:31); Andy Jiang (21:05); Avery Rohr (21:34); Joey Kronenberger (21:49); Trey Lefeld (22:03); Conner Sunderhaus (22:26); Josh Timmerman (22:30); Austin Mumaw (23:25); Luke Garman (24:01); Dante Simon (26:42) and Eli Dues (27:13).

For the girls, Indian Lake took first place (42), followed by New Bremen (51).

The Lady Cardinals had three in the top 10 — Caroline Whitlatch (5th, 21:18); Riley Suchland (9th, 21:51); and Molly Dues (10th, 21:53), followed by Lily Rindler (13th, 22:27) and Shaylee Boyle (14th, 22:29).
