100 Years Ago May 25, 1923

Five hundred persons assembled in Minster last Tuesday to attend the Threshermen’s Seventh Annual District convention that had been advertised as an affair of that date. The convention was held at the J.J. Dues Machine company’s plant which had made ready.

Commencement exercises of the Minster High School the evening – An unusually large class to be turned out from Village School – The members of the senior class of the Minster high school will render their commencement program at the Crescent theatre this Friday night. It is an unusual thing, for the managers of a village school to be able to say that 18 young women and young men are being turned out of a local institution at one time, but this is the case in Minster this spring.

Mr. Lawrence Naber has accepted the position of janitor for the property of St. Augustine

congregation in Minster and is already taking care of the duties attached to the job.

75 Years Ago May 21, 1948

Frank Brinkman, former Minster high school baseball star, is given high praise by Jack Anderson, sports writer for the Mayfield, Ky. Messenger. Frank started this season in the Mayfield team which is owned by the St. Louis Browns.

New Building Going Up at Steaker’s – In line with an expansion program under construction for some time, H.F. Streaker, owner of the business bearing his name on South Main St. near Fourth Street announced start of construction of a new 40 by 36 foot cement block building on the south side of the current building.

25 members of the Minster Boy Scout troop and their scoutmaster, Robert Bernhold, along with two prospective Boy Scouts, will make a trip to Columbus Saturday by automobile and will spend the day in the capital city. Cars will be driven by M.C. Bernhold, Joe Kuhn, R.H. Bernhold, Bob Garmann, Nick Hogenkamp, Frank

Herkenhoff, Lawrence Kemper and Daryl Sharp. Scouts include Donald Bachman, Roland Bernhold, Norman Bertke, Danny Bohman, Thomas Fogt, Donald Frericks, Nick Hogenkamp, Robert Hoying, Robert Huelskamp, Dale Kemper, Larry Kemper, Patrick Kuhn, Lurt Lammers, Dennis Meyer, Donald Oldiges, Joseph Sherman, Lester Sherman, James Treon, James Weghorst, Theodore Wilkens, Theodore Will, Harold J. Wuebker. The prospective Boy Scouts are Bernard Frierott and John Eiting.

50 Years Ago May 24, 1973

This year, when Bonnie Boecker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Boecker Jr. graduates, the school bus will make its last stop, in forty consecutive years at the Boecker Farm. When Betty Jane, daughter of Bernard Boecker Sr. started sixth grade, Joe, oldest son of Bernard Boecker Jr. stared first grade.

Thomas A. Knapke, superintendent of Minster Local Schools for the past three years, submitted his resignation to the Board of Education at an extended meeting of the board. Board members were reluctant to accept his resignation.

Private Ralph A. Westerheide, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Westerheide is presently stationed with the US Army in Korea, where he will be for the next year.

Crescent Theatre – “Snoopy, Come Home”

Les Brown and his “Band of Renound” will be appearing at the Crystal Ball Room, Versailles.
